All of these items make up the body of a M3U file. A M3U file is used to play digital music on a wide variety of devices such as computers, smartphones and audio players. Certain embedded systems use M3U files to play their music without an internet connection. Essentially, the M3U file format has become an integral part of today's technology.
The most useful function of an M3U file is playing digital music without requiring an internet connection. This makes for easy offline listening and allows users to edit their playlists without an internet connection. This feature also allows users to switch between different stations while online. Since many internet radio stations host their streams in M3U files, it's easy to listen to new music while online. To update an M3U playlist file, you only need to know where the old one is located and how to create a new one. The updated version of the Music Playlist File should be saved as .m3u8; any other variations will not work. The original version should be renamed .m3u-old and placed in Appdata/local/Mac OS/somedirectory with write permissions for the owner and group assigned to it. After creating both versions of the file, you can play any digital music on your computer or smartphone by opening them with a media player program such as VLC Media Player or mp4Box Media Player.
Although it's not an essential part of every technology today, the Music Playlisting Project has played a major role in our lives over the last half century. Today, most music players come preinstalled with playlist files that have been updated to work with new music formats and platforms.
